Intellectual Property Licensing Unit
Protecting the Intellectual Property assets of the University is the main function of the Intellectual Property Licensing Unit (IPLU). IPLU assists faculty and student researchers with the following services:
Patentability Potential Assessment
Review completed research projects or studies for patentability potential.
Prior Art Search Assistance
Assist in prior art search or patent search and other patent information services.
Capability Building
Provide training on invention spotting, prior art search, and patent claim drafting
Filing Application Assistance
Review drafted specifications and claims to ensure they conform to the rules of patent drafting.
File online the IP specifications to IPOPHL for national or international IP protection
Monitoring/Prosecution
Respond to formality examination reports (FER), substantive examination reports (SER), and other office actions of IPOPHL within the specified period of time.
Monitor the progress of IP applications and periodically update the inventors or makers on the status of applications
Document Safekeeping
Receive certificates of registrations from IPOPHL and keep them in safe storage on behalf of the university and the inventors
Maintain an inventory or database of IP assets
