CMU-IPTBM

IPTBM stands for Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management.  It is the intellectual property office (IPO) of Central Mindanao University (CMU). The name was borrowed, with permission, from the DOST-PCAARRD program designed to enhance the IP operations among State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) that are members of the PCAARRD regional consortia.

The Board of Regents (BOR) created CMU's first intellectual property office in 2009. It was initially called the Linkages and Technology Licensing Office (LTLO). When the University Code was revised in 2015, LTLO was dissolved and replaced by two new offices: The International Relations Office (IRO) responsible for maintaining external linkages, and the Intellectual Property Licensing Office (IPLO) for intellectual property protection. During PCAARRD's implementation of the IPTBM Program, Batch 2 in 2018-2020, it was realized that IPTBM is the appropriate name for the CMU's IPO because it is responsible not only for IP protection but also for technology transfer and commercialization. Thus, IPLO was renamed IPTBM.

The name IPTBM was institutionalized by embedding it in the CMU Intellectual Property Rights Policy. The CMU IPR Policy was officially approved by the BOR on July 31, 2020. The main mandate of IPTBM is to manage the University IP assets. In particular,  it is mandated to protect, transfer, and commercialize university-generated technologies.  Three offices, listed below, were created to carry out its mission.
